emerging markets of different packaging for beef products to get more of a profit for producers out of non-primal cuts.

catering beef to diabetes centric society

primal cuts don't need any help.

Prepared Public Speaking is probably one of my favorite things in FFA. I started when I was a freshman, and actually just competed last thursday night and qualified for the state contest again.

I would say the way she delivers her speech is more important than the subject matter. But, I would challenge her to come up with it, because the judges will ask her questions and its alot easier to answer them well if she has background and passion for the subject.

Tell her to be confident and look the judges in the eye. Good luck!

last year I did my speech on genetic defects in the Angus breed. It was very interesting even though I'm a shorty girl. Just remember they like to have a topic that is new and still "hot". Thats why I did curly caclf instead of PHA and TH. Good luck hope you have as much luck asw I did.  ;D

Just an idea.... but why don't you have her research the positive and negative effects of the "showring" on the beef industry.  That might make for a thoughtful and insightful speech.

Find something that she is really interested in and has some good knowledge on... work around that for the first speech.

My daughter is a freshman this year and her speech is outlining the differences in production of commercial cattle vs purebred/showring cattle.  She's also used this speech in 4-H competitions.    She's learned a lot.. mostly the experience of getting up and doing it in front of varied audiences.  I think a more frontline topic would be more competitive but this was a good starting place for her as she is interested in it.

Good Luck!!

Oh what fun!!!  I was also one of those odd balls that loved public speaking.  No matter what field she chooses to follow, public speaking is an invaluable asset.

You have some good advice already, but I think some of the topics concerning the gentics of the industry as a whole.  Or, you can pursue the cloning issues or the use of AI.  There are so many good topics out there.  Something I spoke about was the concept of America feeding the world.  It was kinda funny because saw an article on it in the past couple of weeks.  My speech was 30 years ago...  YIKES!

some great ideas listed above me!  Preparation and Confidence are two BIG parts of public speaking.  To be confident, you have to be prepared!  Hope she has fun at the contest!
