I have a steer that weighs right around 1110. I know that I will never be able to get him to 1300 but what is the best way to put as much cover on in 30 days? He is eating about 25lb/day and is on show chows finishing touch. He has been on appetite express since may 10 and it didn't seem to work. What are some ways I can put cover on him and what is the best way to get him to pack on the water weight right before weigh in? The steer is allowed to be on the fair grounds one day before weigh in.

What's the best way to feed it and will that put on cover or water weight right before weigh in?

I like stabilized rice bran, i would also try MoorMan's ShowTec® Fast Fat No. 11156. I really would have started these products about 2 months ago if it were me but you have 30 days so do your best just do not over do it and make the calf sick.

If you can find Oat-mo (ground up grain hay with molasses) you can substitute that for hay everyother feeding it will help add some cover.

I also think Power Fuel from Purina works well.  I have been feeding it for about a month and my steer has put on a good amount of cover already.
