I am debating on what I want to feed my steers for this year to get them finished. I have a Hereford and a Maine Cross steer. The hereford is fairly good muscled for a hereford but I would still like more tone to it. So I have a couple options for growing and finishing them

Option 1-Feed a Purina feed at about 12 bucks a bag( feed a different one for growing and finishing)

Option 2- Feed a Sunglo pelleted feed that is 14% protein and 4% fat and be paying about 9.50 or so a bag(feed same one all the way threw)

Option 3- feed a feed yard ration that consists of mainly Steamed flaked corn, hay, and mineral pack that includes yeast(feed one for growing and one for finishing)

We have a family that feeds the feed yard ration every year and every year they always have the best finished cattle, so I am kind of leaning towards that Also I think it being more bulky I would think it would help deepen them both which they could both use. Also if I feed the feed yard ration I can get it with Zilmaz in it. But I don't know how hard it is on hair? I can also get Show cattle explosion instead.

I am thinking I will start them on a grower ration from the feed yard and Then in about March put them on a finishing ration from the feed yard, And about 45 days from show start them on sunglo epic for hair growth, and then about 40 days-25 days start them on either the zilmax, or show cattle explosion. What do you think?

I'm not familar w/ SunGlo personally but have heard good things about it. For the mill feed just make sure it's consistent & no moldy grain.

I was told that you could feed  a steer all the way thru on Sunglo's 14.4.  Haven't tried it on steers but have seen some amazing results on heifers.

Yes I have been told that and I had a family do it this year but there steers were super big framed and they still needed another 200 lbs at fair time even though they were already weighing 1400, so it wasnt a very good example.
