I am thinking about breeding one of my cows to Fire Water this year.  I was just curious on the birth weights of the Fire Water calves.  The cow I want to breed him to is pictured, sorry that was the best picture I have of her.  She is a very clubby female and I would like to get a little less clubby calves so I can potentially keep back some heifers.  She is a Dr. Who cow out  of a Simmy cross cow.  She was bred to Monopoly last year and had a steer calf in July with no problem, 96 lbs calf.  BUT I am still curious as to how a Fire Water on a Clubby bred cow has worked or will work.

He is supposed to work very well on clubby cattle

IMO,If you want a better chance at making a steer ,use the new pb bull Game On,,,fire water will give you nice females,,but the steers will be nice, but could be harder haired than you want for steer deal,,was super impressed with game On,prob just a nickel small for the purebred side

Game on certainly has the phenotype and breeding to make it in into the big time.  His good numbers don't hurt either .  I just have a couple of concerns.  Does anyone know anything about  the cow this bull is out of besides the her numberrs?  Also this is an unproven bull. We don't know exactly what we will do.  Any other more proven bulls that can turn out both steers and heifers?  What about the ABS bull Firemaker?
By the way here is alink to Dory Gerrard's bulls sale plenty of Firewater and Montezuma's to go around: http://www.transconlivestock.com/flipbooks/2013/Mountainview_2013_Bull_Sale/index.html

I know that cow of zachs is a producing machine ,,,not sure firemaker will make steers,,some can get plenty round in their hip and be very tight haired,,cows are producing machines for commercial bulls, just seem to lack"pizzazz "needed to win big......game on is certainly unproven ,but bulls don't become proven without going out on a limb, and trying them first,,,I had one of the first firewaters born at my house,,,that worked out ok ;)

I'm not just restricting myself to steers. I would like to keep back heifers and not have to sell them because they are to terminal in their make-up.  I would really like a proven bull, thats why I was thinking Firewater.  I really like his females.  Excellent udders and loads of femininity.

If you ate going to consider gameon then you should also look at Keys All State as they are similar type bulls.  Allstate also comes from a very good female.
another proven alternative to firewater other than Firemaker is Keys McHenry 24M.  He does everything right from a functional standpoint and is also related to the gameon bull.
I would call Effertz up and find out which of their show winners is the more maternal.
