Well we got our first calf this morning - a 70 lb. heifer out of a 4 year old Money Man cow. The cow was bred by Fancy Creek Farm in Illinois to War Paint, a full brother to Dream Catcher. We purchased her in Buck's Fall Premier sale and it listed she was pasture exposed from 4/15/09 to 8/15/09 which means she should have calved after January 22. I guess she could have calved early but the exposure date might be off. I'll try and get some pictures.

Our first calf wont come until April. I wish it was a little earlier, but the weather shouldnt be a  stress factor on the cows at calving. We have a money man calf comiing out of Dr. Who heifer, I'm pretty excited to see it!!!

our first calf should be here in the nest 2-3 days. her vulva area is getting really loose and she's starting to get some milk in her utter. This will be her first calf too from one of my X show heifers.

You need to keep a real close eye on her Zach.

Does that maker her a January born show heifer?

We'll leave that up to whoever buys her. Here in Kansas, they have to be born after January 1 to show. She will be for sale, if she turns out anything like her mother she'll be a good one.

she looks like she could be  tough and competitive when she gets a little older! Good luck hope she makes a good show heifer that will be taking the purples home with her! I have to say she's a cutie!

I would think bragging on a public forum about a calf being born in Dec, then saying she might be (whatever) shown as a Jan is a bit "in your face" cheating isn't it?    Oh I forgot, it is ok to do whatever it takes to win, as long as its a cattle show and your not a football coach!

Its a bit hard to judge a new born. Some turn out, some don't, but at least she is alive!  Any chance the cow was AI'd instead of being 3 weeks early????  3 weeks is a very long time to be early.

I didn't say she would be registered as a January, she might not even be show quality. I don't think she was AI'd but I'll have to call the breeder to make sure. She looks like she's out of a Simmental.

Had our first calf of the season yesterday.  Wasnt suppose to come until March. ???  Had a young bull on the place that i was selling to the neighbor that must have gotten in with the heifers I was keeping back.  Anyway despite it being -24 degrees, the baby and mom are doing fine.  Needed a little time in the warmer tho.
