No, our county has a fitting contest 1 day and the actually show the next day is no fit, make that make sense ???  They try and follow State Fair guidelines so when State Fair went no fit they followed.  The really sad part is we have a very small county fair because we live in a very urban community, but we have some of the most competitive animals in the nation, we had 7 teams in the fitting contest last year, just seem like such a shame to limit the kids from learning how to properly fit an animal so they can compete outside of the state of Kansas.
Our fair is Aug 3-9, I think we have one of the latest fairs in the state.

Jill, What county are you in? Our neighboring county, Rooks, has their fair Aug 10-15, it is soooo late. 2 years ago, our kids were in school during their fair.

That doesn't make sense..  Although the county deserves a big pat on the back for having the contest.    It would be fun.

Braunvieh,  That is late, especially considering that school seems to start earlier each year.  I dont' know which would be worse .. the really early fair or the really late ones.

We are in Pott Co.  which is  7/29 - 8/2.

Good luck, yours is coming right up!
Here is a blast from the past, this is the only time I can remember showing at Rooks County, we were out there to show somewhere else and decided we could hit 2 shows in 1 day, we love showing out there, some of the nicest people out that way!

Jill, I can't believe you have even heard of it!!! That is quite a haul from KC. The Rooks county fair is by far the best fair around here, especially for livestock. They actually have cattle for open shows!! My dad said back in the day the Rooks Co. Fair was the premier fair in kansas for livestock, and they have these awesome harness races that are quite unique. But I do wish it were earlier.

The dates were probably set back in the day when school didn't start til after Labor Day.  I know our fair has been moved up because of school and as it is, the kids start the 13th.
