Need opinions and help please..... ??? ??? ??? ???

When we got our steer he weighed about 1000 lbs and his lines were perfect.  Now he weighs 1320 and his flank is getting higher each day.  He is large framed and footed so he could carry a bit more weight if we had to but I know we'll take a penalty for anything much over 1425.  Has anyone had this happen to them?  It is very frustrating as we went to a show with them over the weekend and really got punished by the judge for the high flank.

Thanks in advance.

How much beet pulp or other filler is he getting? Also, what sort of hay do you feed? We feed beet pulp at a pretty high rate and we have had pretty darn good success with it. If you can, soak it in water for about 10 minutes before you feed it (sorry if you already do that lol).  Feeding the longest-stemmed grass hay will help give more flank too.  Work his flank hair more too, and you will be able to glue a more even belly.  Good luck, high flanks can be a pain, especially if the calf is otherwise very good.

UPDATE:  about 6 days ago I started feeding him "Winning Fill" by Kent Feeds.

http://www.kentfeeds.com/Product-Selector/Show-Feeds/First-Rate%C2%AE-Winning-Fill%E2%84%A2.aspx

He doesn't seem to like it much and will eat it when there is nothing else ( I mix it 50-50 with his current food).  This product has both Timothy and Alfalpha hay in it and a small mixture of show bloom.  Up until I started him on this mixture he was eating bermuda grass hay but since then I have locked him in the pen and gets only the hay in the Winning Fill.  I have not tried the beet pulp route yet.

Some others have suggested using a Showmaster product called "Full and Fresh".

Here are a couple of pictures from earlier today of him.

Just my two Cents

Flank is one of the last things that will come down (IF IT EVER DOES) Genetics helps....... But if you got time and your limit is 1425 I would get him to about 1450-1500 and shink him back for your fair.  This is BECAUSE he is a Large FRAME Steer.  Start this guy on some good Finisher with some RICE BRAN Top Dress  ( This will help him get fat)  I hope you have enought time

Thank you so much for your input.  I agree that he needs to be ran up to about 1500 lbs.  After thinking it through that makes sense.  I am so glad this forum exists so that there is a place for peeps to turn for help.  FWIW....I tried contacting the breeder that sold me this animal and he hung up on me when I asked what he would do in a situation like this.

PM me the name of the breeder. I think when you sell an animal and the customer has question you should help them. I know as a buyer if you help me out I'm going to keep coming back.

I really like the guy and he sells a lot of winners.  I will give him the benefit of the doubt because I know he is in Denver right now and is probably CRAZY busy.

Since he is in Denver, is there the chance that something happened to his phone so on??? Not sayin thats the case but like you said if he's a good guy typically give him another chance imho.
