daughter steer weighing  aprox. 1250  has fluid, or should I say feels like  fluid, on his back leg. It is on front side of leg at hock high. He does not favor it or doesnt seem to be sore. What should we do, we are concerned, our show is in Aug. Thanks for any help

Do you have pics? Id say it's a fluid pocket and you could get it drained but unless it's huge I'd try to hide it with hair or leave it because you don't want puncture wounds on your calf from draining it.

Unless he is lame from it I would leave it alone. I had a steer that had one on each hock a few years ago. It never affected his soundness and he did very well otherwise. If you go to draining it or lancing it you could create a bigger problem than what is there.

I would recommend the use of Glide from championshowstock.com

Had a steer that I sold that had a similar issue with joint swelling & you do chance serious infection/problems with draining or lancing.

That being said, the "puffyness" is down after 3 weeks of Glide.  The stuff flat works.

Along with a joint supplement you may also try hydro therapy.  Run cold water from your hose directly over the joint surface 20 minutes twice a day and see if it helps. Make certain he has a soft plce to stand and is not on hard dirt or concrete for long periods of time. If it persist, there may be something your vet can prescribe but check your withdraw times first..G-Luck

I had a show horse that got fluid on his back legs after a long haul or a while being stalled.  We would cold hose it-take off the nozzles just these water pressure straight outta the end of the hose.  Then we would take vet wrap and pressure wrap it-start not too tight and get tighter over the course of a day or it goes away.  We would also do a little exercise to help work it out.  I would just do a nice laid back walk on super softground with a steer.  This was what quite a few vets recommended we do and it worked wonders....usually overnight and it would be gone.  I would probably walk the steer 2 or 3 times if he is normally tied
