OK Steerplanet, we're planning on flushing our National Champion Cow.  Any great ideas for sires to flush her to?  Realistically we will be flushing to an Angus bull but I'm open to other suggestions (if only for interests sake).  Don't just throw out names, I'd like to know "why" as well.

FYI cow is sired by TC Stout (son of TC Freedom x VRD 7078).  No preference towards bulls or heifers.  Just need to be good and marketable.

I would strongly recommend Pyro. I have attached a flyer on him. Full disclosure-he is owned by a friend of mine but I don't own a part of him. Absolutely crazy good fronted, super neat profile with a ton of upper rib shape and muscle dimension for a pb angus bull. He isn't going to be turn key marketable everywhere but in terms of breeding good cattle he would be the best bet. Marketable bulls that I can think of would be SAV Resource, I have to admit I'm not a big fan of that program but from what I have seen/heard that could be the best bull to come out of there. On the production side something like Effective or Connealy Balance would really ring the bell but I think you are looking for something will a little more show to them. Just my two cents.

She has plenty of middle and bone to carry Saugahatchee if you wanted to go with proven old school and bring some EXT into it.

depends on if you want show or beef.  I have seen that normally the two don't cross paths often..

I like the first class calves for show... So I found a cheaper option to first class and used C-5 American Classic... have seen some heifers out of him that I was happy with and have heard his calves are fairly consistent....Tree Lane Farms had some heifers in their fall sale out of Classic that looked pretty good.
I also liked EXAR Wanted.  I have a bull calf out of Wanted & a TC Forever cow that I am pretty partial to.  this is a bull you don't see used a lot anymore & tried him because I liked his profile....

That cow is beyond beautiful! Dameron C-5 American Classic. They will be beautiful and very marketable! Get 30 eggs on the first flush and call with a nice deal on the purchase of five eggs.

I will also throw in my idea on Pyro. Don't own any part of him either but I am a believer. Like mentioned he can throw a wicked front, super super sound, good ribbed. Ive seen a lot of angus out of him that Ive liked a lot and Im not in the angus breed. Ive also seen him work on char, simmy, maine, gelbvieh cows with good success also. The picture is a pyro bred that sold on online sale a week ago. If your interested I can get more pictures of angus calves and I have some maine and simmy influence ones here at my place.

I would look at hf tiger 5t. I have used him several years and am using a son as a clean up. He is a bull that I believe will work in the show ring and in the pasture. They are deep hairy and massive ribbed. His daughters are raising their second calves and they are fancy beautiful females. They raised a extremely impressive first set of calves.

All I really know is that I sure like that cow, so I would try to make more like her.
I found studying the notes on this Foundation Cattle Company sale taught me a little about the cows behind the bulls they were selling.  The breeding is familiar to me, but not the logic.

And looking for daughters of the bulls they were using, there were several on Jauer's site

So, just info on maybe keeping the cow type going with some practical stuff.

Good suggestions so far. I'll look into a few when I'm not on my phone.  FYI HF Tiger is out of a TC Freedom cow so I won't go that way. I do have SAV Resource,  SAV Angus Valley,  Soo Line Motive, HF Kodiak in the tank currently.  I'm not keen on EXT or Shockwave.  Docility is  an issue for both. Thanks for the kind words about the cow. I'm sure proud of her.

Does anyone have some reports on the calves out of American Classic?  Are they going to make more than show cattle?  I'm sure daughters will look nice, but are bulls going to have enough power to sell to commercial cattlemen?

Mill Iron - I'd like to see a lot more depth in the Pyro bull for me to use him.  Resource is still one of my top choices so far.  We used Effective on heifers last year.  Calves look ok as yearlings but are too small at birth for us.  It's -40 here when I calve and 60lb calves don't survive very well.

FYI if it helps, the cow is about a frame 6 and in that pic she'd weigh approx 1950lbs.  If I had to change her, I'd want to improve her performance numbers (just the EPDS essentially) and add some more natural muscle shape to her calves.

Irish Whiskey or Cerveza for some half blood replacements.  Should work well on that size angus.

Cowboy, I respect that conclusion from the pictures, the progeny and the bull in person wouldn't get the that critique but from the pictures alone he does. I will try and dig up some more pics when possible. Nice cow.

I've had good luck with Limestone Great Divide.  He definitely adds some muscle shape and his epd's are pretty good.  He has a low docility epd, but that hasnt been my experience.  My Select Sires rep asks me about the disposition of my Great Divide calves all the time and I've never had a bad experience with them.  They are as easy going as any other sires calves on my place.

I've also seen several nice Plattemere Weigh up calves this year.  Nicely muscled and huge middled.  They were my top picks at Deer Valley's sale this fall.

I don't know the angus game well but what about the musgraves aviator bull? Went and fit at agribition and worked on an aviator calf and saw a couple more and can't believe more people don't breed to him! Outstanding numbers too, just an outsiders thoughts

You've got a pretty good eye.  Aviator looks to be a good breeding bull.  He is privately owned in Canada by Tanya Belsham (Poplar Meadows).  The issue for me is he is an Upward Grandson and I already am walking an Upward son and have several daughters already.  Plus semen isn't publicly available, although Tanya is great to deal with.
