Well we have decided to flush this heifer next summer after she calves and implant them into some commercail cows, and then keep all the females back and put them into our commercail herd. We were thinking something more maternal perferably maine or a good angus, or simmy bull, But was also thinking somehtign that would be able to make good females and good steers.  Must be TH, PHA, and CCS free. I am needing something that will make her a frame score bigger(she weighed 1160 this past weeken), I would like her females to weigh about 1200-1250lbs. I would like something really sound, and have a really strong topline. Must milk very well!

Her EPD's are BWT 2.2 WW 36.4  YW 68.9 Milk 17.7 M+G 35.9

Her are some pictures from this weekend I tried to take out the chute so you could see her better. She probally isn't donor quality but shes the best I have so we are gona try it out. Tel me what you think. Thanks amillion!

Her sire is BFW WHISKEY ECHO which is an Irish Whiskey Son out of a Lexus Dam that is PHAF . I will have to call the breeder today and see what her dam was as she is not registered.

While those are all great choices, I'm not sure any of them will up her frame score.

While the pic is fuzzy, she looks like a heck of a good heifer. Why the rush to flush her ? You could breed her a few time to see what works and what doesn't. Then flush her when she is in her prime year 3 or 4.

What about gigilo joe? She is bred to chill factor for a may calf we are wanting her to be calving around jan to feb so while we are waiting to flush her we will be able to see how it turns out. I think the dr.who would be most versitile

We are wanting to flush her because she isnt calving where i want her to be in order for her to be most profitable for my operation. We have a fairly large commercial herd and if we get calves that are half as good as her it will be an improvment to the herd. We had some interest in her this past weekend so that is what has brought on this topic. How many times can you flush a female before you need to rebreed her?

thats funny

I would say if u flush her than breed her in between each time u flush a cow, so it keeps there system goin, or else they only might just pop out a couple of embryos each time.

Looks like a pretty good heifer!  How'd you do this weekend?

When we asked about flushing a heifer, they recommended doing one flush and then breeding her for a first calf.

Sorry about the picture quality it was off of a cell phone. We got grand senior maintainer and then in the overall maintainer they only placed the top two so who knows how she did. When we flush her she wont be a heifer as she will have had her first calf. We will flush her some time between the end of june and the end of march. However thanks for the info on flushing a heifer

Congrats on your placement!!

I see... I misunderstood & thought she was open now!  Who is she bred to?  Might wait & make a final decision after you see what that calf looks like.

Thank you!! I was pretty happy with how she looked, She is bred to chill factor for a end of may calf. Wish I would have had her ultrasounded so I could see what was coming!! Thats what I was thinking, I could probally wait until next winter and then i could see how it turned out.

I'd say you'd have a pretty good idea on that calf by the time she'd be ready to flush after calving.

You will be fine with when you are wanting to flush, each animal is different and you won't really know till you get into it how many times you can flush her.  We have some that have gone for a couple of years without having a natural calf, you embryologist will tell you when they think you need to give her a rest.  Dr. Who is a good choice, we really like ours, but he tends to through a little neck, Gigolo Joe in my opinion would be a great choice and he may even frame her up a little (check with Juli on that) we bred several to him this year and are really excited to see how he worked.  I guess for me, if I had a heifer like that I'd be shooting for steers out of her she looks to be geared for steer production, why are you looking for heifers out of such a small framed cow?

Well our commercail herd used to be angus based, and then we started using red simmys on them and the calves were great (from a commercail stand point) and then we switched to a black simmys and we lost the look in the calves and the calves were never as good as they had been. Then we a few years ago we started using polled hereford bulls, for calving ease, the cows, and the no horns, however moving to the herefords didnt do much good for the steers. We know have alot of super long spined, good milking, good sturctured cows ,that are great momma cows, however the calves dont have much thickness, So next year we will be breeding part of the cow herd, with maine anjou bulls, to see if we cant get some more eye appealing muscular calves. I will be breeding her for steers, but why not try and get some heifers, that are toned down some while waiting to bred her for the steers?

While we are here on steer production who would you breed her to for steers?

If we're not going to worry about TH and PHA, then I would use Warrant, Naughty Pine, Manchild, and Sunseeker if you think she has a pretty enough front.
