I have a heifer that likes to bring her back left foot up in front of were its sopposed to be. She almost crosses her back legs. Is this a sign of ffot rot or laziness?

We had a nasty epidemic of foot rot in our cows last year and know the signs well. Swelling in the pastern or ankle, not putting weight on the afflicted foot and painful when we touched the animal's foot. Today we had a lame cow and when we checked her out she had a surface cut on the inside of her hoof.

I wouldn't be concerned unless the foot is swollen.

We have two show heifers that are 1/2 sibs and they both do that when they are being shown.  They both cover their tracks and are sound and yes they are lazy, they put the L in lazy! Every cow we ever had that had foot rot would limp or give to the infected foot and it does have an odor to it.  Coppertox is really good to treat and prevent.

Most cattle with Footrot have swelling, show lameness and have an odor in that foot.

It doesn't sound like foot rot to me.  Listen to what Stewart and others are saying about the symptoms.

What is the breeding of your heifer? It sounds that it maybe SP or early symptoms of SP.
