I have recently been abandoned (some of the other members of my family and chore group went to Denver without me). Leaving me to fend for myself in -25 ºC = -13 ºF we are talking before the wind chill!!!! Anyways on one night I found the gate open and the mature cows well missing in action ie)  not in the field... Lucky with the minus temperatures usually comes snow making cow tracking rather simple... granted it wasn't hard since they were found in the horse feed having a glorious time knocking it over pooping in it generally being bovines.

Now remembering I am by myself! It took a total of 10 minutes from finding said escaped females to having them back in their pasture and myself back in the house making tea!!! I have to just say thank heavens for our Shorthorns  because of their docile easy to handle natures, I haven't met many other cattle herds that can be moved by one person on foot without any problems!!!

Funny! For us, we would just walk out and put halters on all of them and walk them back where they belong (of course, ours are simmis!).
But, we had something similar happen here; ice pulled down the hot wire fence and they just walked over! Black cows, when everyone has black cows.... ours have no tags. Scary! We took off following what tracks we could see (driven over, snowed on, ...) then just shook a grain bucket and called for them. Low and behold a few minutes later our truck is being stalked by a bunch of bovines following the grain bucket!!! They followed us right back into the pasture, and were locked up until the ice melted off the fence  ;D

I will have you know that being a tourist at the NWSS is not all that its cracked up to be. Your dad got his nosed sunburnt after we got there in the afternoon. It was so hot we had to go to a wine tasting in the morning. If you are nice maybe he will share with you when they get home. Then we came home and watched football and ate BBQ chicken (some ribs), with more wine. Did you make sure the gate was closed after you put them in?

Dear cruel and unusual frostback..... I am sorry for my late reply I was digging out my little red wagon so I could drag it around the barn yard miserably...  It sounds like it is my turn next year to suffer through wine tasting, sun burns, and bbq chicken 2 years in a row of dad and Jacqueline having to endure such pain is unthinkable, so I will step up and save them the pain.  I believe thunderdownunder might have to help share the burden....

PS I love my pink halter how does Kaylee like hers ;)?

Well you two, you are on for next year.
As far as the halter, it is in the barn ready for use at HOME. Daddy even bought her a heifer to use it on. It will not be seen at a show.
