What was everyone's opinions? How did everyone like Mullinix?

Did the right two get grand and reserve?

Just by seeing the pictures posted on The Pulse by Sullivan Supply every breed winner and class winner looked excellent.

I do have a few questions .How many total steers are shown? How many make the sale? Are the steers classified for breeds? What happens if you are sifted? How much of the sale price is kept for other youth programs/ Thanks !

I could give you guess, but for accuracy, go to the Fort Worth Livestock show and Rodeo website and look at the results page.  The rules on payouts would also be listed

San Antonio- kids get all the money
Houston-  money to kids are capped with excess going to scholarship fund

I could not tell you how many were shown it's alot. Top 10 in each class make sale. Classification happens on Wednesday. If you classify out you can not show. If sifted you mean non placing you can take them home and show them some where else. Fort Worth kids keeps all of sale money.

I thought mullinix did a great job. I didn't have any steers showing this year but sat front row. And he was not afraid to put what he liked at the top of a class. Was not afraid to pull way more than most would and sift through more than once. For one thing if they were tubular they were not going to cut it. That has not been the case in prior years. Just my 2 cents though.

Thanks for info.I couldnt get a number off of Fort Worth site maybe Telos will chime in.I see a lot of influence of the popular club calf sires in the Angus and Herefords.Just to make the sale at FortWorth would be an honor and I think they sell pretty well. Seems they know how to get it done with youth support for the sale.

I think i hear it was close to1600 steers. None of the breed steers have to be purbred. Just have to have enough breed characteristics to get in. Some years its a guessing game if one will get in. I have sent a purebred angus and got classed out . Fort worth is right up there with the best as far as sell money

Certainly not challenging the 1600 number but my Son went out this year and he told me on Thursday there were over 2800 steers there? Bottom line there are a lot! He also said that there may be as many as 80 in a class, and when you came in one gate if you were not pulled by the time you reached the gate on the other side you just filed on out and went back to the barn. Your day was over!

I have seen close to 2000 at fort worth but 2800 would be tough to fit in the barns. The cross classes easy get in the 80 per class. Most of the other classes have right around 40 except for the americans which i'm guessing around 60. The polled Herefords always have way less than any others, with about 30.  I was not there Friday so i cant speak for the cross classes, but Mullinix did a good job of pulling from the walk and then going back through and feeling and pulling from that aspect. But when you have to go through 80 head it can be tough to feel everything.

I heard (I wasn't there nor have I ever been that) from a good friend that had steers there that there were something like 2,500 ENTRIES of which only about 2/3 showed up.  The conversation revolved around people over entering to get more stall space...but again, I don't know.

He told me that he felt Mullinix did a good job of giving every calf a fair look.  While he didn't agree with every single decision, he believed that Mullinix did a good job and knew what he was looking for.

If I did this right here are the class breaks for all breeds in the steer show. You have to search breed and class you want but their all there. Didn't spend the time to count but theirs a pile of fats. They also have a link to results which list the top 10 per class.

Just recovering from Ft Worth, and getting ready for San Antonio...

Think there were about 1800 head there.  As always, lots of spectacular calves. The photos on pulse aren’t lying—the quality was crazy deep everywhere, but especially in the heat classes. We did a lap in class 5 exotics, and hard to argue the 10 he used to place. They had to be deep, fresh, and powerful to get a sale hole, didn’t have to be exceptional on structure, but again, the calves at the top of these classes had it all. Grand and reserve were spectacular...hard to argue those 2.

I really liked Mullinix. He was pretty consistent, he talks a great set of reasons, and I really think he paid attention at the 10th hole (where sale holes start).  I think it was one of the Hereford classes that he spent time talking 9th-13th...kind of unusual, but as a parent I really appreciated it.

The exotic classes here are probably the toughest in the world to judge due to raw #’s, depth of quality, variety, fitting...and my 2 cents is that Mullinix did a really nice job. He was quick but I thought he got good looks at the vast majority of each class. Part of what made him quicker is that he didn’t profile, he looked on the move and rear view. He was thorough enough that I thought that was plenty. I’m looking forward to hauling to him again.

That's amazing and more steers than all the other big shows combined plus many state fairs.A friend of mine was there and some his friends grandchildren showed and made the sale. The classes that are based on breed characteristics are still rewarded well and their calves were 4th in class and received $13#which is more than the ISF grand. The trick is being good enough to classify but not good enough to win.He said there is nothing that compares  to the FWSS.
