Trying to gauge the finished weight and frame size of steer project.  Can anyone give me an idea how big Sunseeker steers finish out?  Not sure of his dam -- probably fairly average.  Have 800 lb. steer shooting for early August county fair.

I can snap a photo in the next day or so, but was mostly wondering if the frame sizes on the steers follow the cow or are they fairly consistent?  How big is Sunseeker?  This steer is free moving and wide framed and square butted, but muscling is fairly flat, not particularly bulky at this point.  This steer is a late March calf.

Sunseeker calves are not really known for being overly large. Since the calf is a late March, and your county show is early August you will most likely have to push this calf anyway.

Being too tall at maturity is one of the main complaints I've heard about SunSeeker. I don't know that it happens all the time, but if there is growth on the dam's side, there will probably be a little growth in the calves.

Where is the increased frame coming from?  Must be the maternal grand dam out of Schwarzkopf?

He does wonders on my brothers brangus cows.  As far as I know there was only one calf that has been fed that got tall but his dam is 1800 lbs and very tall.

He has red ones, red or black with some crome at times, and black ones..... we like him better than some others we tried....  We breed them this next week.

His clean up bull is a Sunseeker and he is very moderate and the calves from him, although younger, look even better than Sunseeker for an American breed.  They come small and grow fast.  That is one quality my brother likes.

going for an aug fair and he already weighs 800 lbs you really shouldn't have to push him too hard. If my calculations are right to finish at 1350  he would need to gain about 2.3 lbs/day.

Maybe that is my question is where these guys finish out.  Have had steers that hit about 1250 and were finished.  Sounds like Sunseekers will go 1300 to 1400 lbs.  Guess we will push him, but then have the luxury to dial back in July if we need to.

From what I've seen and heard, the Sunseekers will follow the frame size of the cow.  Had one last year out of a BIG maine cow, fed the crap out of him when he was little trying to burn the grow out of him, and he still weighed 1400 when he hit the truck to Tyson.  I personally won't use him on a big framed cow again, but all my smaller cows are gettin bred that way this spring.

Sunseeker & Wilson would both be 6+ frame score bulls. Wilson has double shot of Full Throttle and he was taller. Sunseeker calves can finish large but they are all over the range as far as frame is concerned.
