Freeze Branding

I was thinking of freeze branding my heifers with a ID brand as well a number brand.  Does anybody have any rules you would like to offer about size of brand for the age of the animal?

I know they grow as the animal gets bigger.  Just wanting to know if there are any rules the fellow planteers like to follow that you have noticed over the years. Thanks in Advance.

I think that all of our freeze brand irons are 4".  So they're not huge, but still readable.

It may not matter to you, but not all states recognize freeze brands as valid brands.
