I saw this shorthorn bull and really liked him. The video looks much better than the pic. What's everyone else think? Video at Paulsen's website: www.paulsencattle.com and go to the upcoming sales.

Keep in mind It is just an opinion on a photo. Reallly not impressed with his front 1/3rd and question how much true muscle he has

SHOULDER...look at the video and it's really bold. I think he's a nice calf, just wish he was smoother there.

Agreed.  I like the way he moves out, and he is thick enough for me, but that shoulder set, and lack of neck extension bother me.

2nd that. Like the way he is bred , just can't get by that front end. JMO.

never watched the video...

but doesn't a little extra front end come with those seeking tremendous power throughout?  Isn't it a catch 22...  never seen one rocket fronted, with a whale ass.

structure?  Is that even cared about in show steers?

This is a Fringe heifer that we had last fall with Double Stuff on the bottom side instead of Sonny. Her shoulder was/is a concern of mine as well. Really thick everywhere else though.

I think Cut the BS is right though, its fairly difficult to get the muscle expression throughout and have a freaky smooth front end.

Yea, I mean I've always heard " wide in the rear, wide in the front". I know that's not always the case , but probably a good rule of thumb. As far as Fringe goes, I really like some of the calves I've seen by him. I bought a cane of semen this fall to use on some cows this spring.

I just wanted to update some info. Joel Brooks contacted me tonight and informed me that this is acctually a Fringe ET bull calf out of Fringe's dam (Sonny x Double Leader), which is a  Full sib to Get Serious and Absolutly. They are selling 1/2 Semen interest and Full Possession on him.

He is a Fringe out of his own dam?

I saw on JBS website-- they had those embroyos-- I thought that was interesting... and would take a real cowman to make that mating...

BTW- how's the best method to get ahold of JBS-= DHS?  Email doesn't work...

Joel's email is probably working, and your email is probably in the right placek, but he doesn't get on the computer much. I visited with him awhile back and he was telling me about sending some pictures, but was going to mail them, doesn't like the email thing. I can PM you the number I have for him if you like, think it is on his website too.

I won't forget Jim Williams was judging a steer deal for us and ended up using a steer with a bit of front end. While he was talking the class he says "Now you might not like the front end of this calf but you've gotta remember it takes a big engine to pull a big caboose" thought it was pretty funny.
