I agree I was pretty impressed.  Debating on whether or not to go because last year got ridiculous.  Everybody talking and not paying attention it got pretty messed up at the end.

Stuff brings way too much there for me...  I've bought calves for 1800 that were full sibs to eggs on that sale that brought 2500/egg...

Anybody have any info on that Hairietta bull "First Impression" ? The catalog says he sold for $100,000, and i haven't heard a peep about him. Anyone know sire? or owners?

bingo.

So you saw nothing that impressed you regardless of price?

I never said that.  The quality is tremendous with some of the most infuential cows in the country in there.  I'm just not a big fan of buying eggs unless they are cheap is all...  There will be no cheap ones cuz at a deal like that there will be enough drunk people in the crowd that will bid on something just to bid..

it was inferred that I said that.  and no, i didn't see anything that i would purchase at any price.  doesn't mean i am dissing anything.

people harp all the time about line breeding.  i just think the maine's are in danger of becoming a maintainer breed and would like to see something different pedigree wise once in a while.

maybe it will happen as these options are exhausted.  probably not though as the offspring will be rolled together and the breed will become like the quarter horses.  everything doc bar, leo, king, except in this case, everything will be sunseeker, heatwave, 602, sooner, etc.  i think it's too soon to consolidate the breed, especially without knowing what is consolidated.  it is my feeling, not proved, that some carcass merit has been unintentionally selected against.  when that is discovered, probably only then will something change.  probably not though.  it's clear some people know what's going on.

so, i'm not really knocking any of the catalog, and just hope they have something different in the future.

you would think if the lines are so great, we would have a clear go to set of bulls that would move the breed forward.  by the way, i like the cow at the bottom of the 602G cow page.  would rather see stuff out of her.

We will be there.  We have fallen into some steals before.  It is always a good time to see friends and relax!
