GCC Old School
« on: February 18, 2010, 08:47:16 AM »
I am looking at using GCC Old School for calving ease on my heifers. Would this be a good choice if I am looking for a bull that is calving ease, clubby, and the calves will grow well? His EPD's are higher for growth than other angus bulls like him. How would you compare his calves to Northern Improvements?

Old School should work well for what you described wanting to do. Combines 2 of the best calving ease bloodlines.

Old School has been my 1st service bull of choice on heifers for the past 3 or 4 years. I haven't had any monsters, but they don't necessarily come like mice either.  BW seemed to be pretty variable, and depend a lot on gestation length.  I'd guess they ranged from 65 lbs. up to 80 lbs., w/ 1/2 of them needing assistance.  Quality as they grow out is just ok.  They aren't dinks but  I didn't have one I felt was worth marketing as a show steer.  I think I've retained 1 female as a replacement.  On the plus side, they seem to be a little harrier than other Angus bulls I've used.
