getting a steer fat without gaining alot of weight

I need help on getting our steer fat without gaining alot of weight, anyone have suggestion?  We have cut his main source of feed in half and are adding more corn now but are there other products out there that work and are they really anygood?

corn oil is a cheap way to add some cover. just like 1/4-1/2 a cup to start so they to get runny on you then you can start working them up. we usually gave all of our steers corn oil like the last month or so.

We have not tried this, but barley is supposed to work.

I would reccomend a high fat liquid soy-based supplement like, Power Plus, Liquid Gold, Magic, Show Gold Plus, etc.  They are at least 80 to 99% fat, and will add cover in a desirable way.  There are many brands, as a lot of companys are manufacturing these products.

thanks everyone, our steer is weighing 1415 and show isn't until end of Oct.
