We're planning a trip to Tulsa this summer for the National Junior Hereford show - wondering what we need to know about the facilities, tie-outs, etc.  Every show site has its strengths and weaknesses - just curious what we need to be prepared for at Tulsa.  We're assuming it will be HOT in July!

The facilities at Tulsa are very nice.  The barns are less than 10 years old, and are pretty well ventilated.  I haven't been there for a mid-summer show, so I really don't know for sure, but I'd think it'd be better than most places for staying reasonably cool, as the barns are high-roofed, and pretty well open to the north and south.  Electricity is just marginal, so I would bring a generator if I had one (and plenty of cord, as I'm sure it'll have to stay outside).  Wash racks are pretty nice, but water pressure is poor - plan on washing early or late or when alot of other folks are doing something else if you can. Tie outs are good, and not far from the barns, but there is no shade there, and don't expect to be able to tie to your trailer, either (I can't think of anyplace to park them that wouldn't be on pavement).  I'm assuming you'll be showing in one of the bigger arenas - they're air conditioned, and have fairly nice seating.  Restrooms are nice, and there're plenty of them - at least one set in the barns has showers and dressing rooms.

Can't think of anything else right now - if you have any more specific questions I'm sure I or someone else here can help.

The facilities are nice.  I would agree with the wash racks wash early or late water pressure stinks.  I never had a problem with the electric there. Good Luck.

I'm headed to Tulsa too.  So thanks for any info that is posted.  I am hoping for a streak of 80's while we are there, but that may be to much to ask for.

Tarps. If you are one the ends of a few barns you will be in the sun morning/evening depending. They really helped keep the sun off the cattle at the Angus show a few years back. You could also, maybe, put them up in tie outs to help with that. In our planning meetings water pressure has been brought up and we have been told they will get it fixed. They could be feeding us a line of bull, but it sure would be nice.

Don't forget a dolly cart b/c the trailers will be semi far away and there isn't too much room for storage in the feed aisle... if there will be one. Not sure on that.

I know there is a Web site specifically for the show, but I can't find it anywhere. If you have more questions, PM me and I can get them answered for you. I am sure a large group of us will be at the Star Lake sale this weekend and I can get you information. Also, if anyone is interested in sponsoring a class or any award, please contact me (clapping)
