gomer bull question

Does a gomer bull ride the cows, more than cows just riding each other .

A gomer bull acts just like a normal bull, because he is. He has just been vasectamized, which means he has his tubes snipped so the semen can not travel down and out. He ejaculates, just shoots blanks!

There's nothing better than a gomer bull. I like to make them side winders, but it's sometime hard to find a vet that will do the procedure. That way the bull is not entering each cow and possibly spreading anything that you may not want spread. I've used a lot of gomer bulls over the years, but not the last few because they take feed and like FSR said, they are bulls.

We had a bull that was super gentle and had broken his penis.....  Best homer ever.  Lead him into the cows, let him check, lead him out.  If he happened to get one stuck it wasn't a bad thing, about half the time we were AIing to him any way......  He took feed but he earned his keep in lots of other ways.....  Heifers out, go get him, lead him out there and the heifers would follow him, he was a pet, and a very convenient gomer.    Never took more then five minutes to find who was standing.

Just wondering if a steer would act as a gomer bull in a confined area?  I have an old cow who does a good job of jumping every cow when they come in heat in one of my fields, but I currently have one open cow and a heifer w/ 2 pregnant cows and am not seeing much jumping activity even when the heifer has been in heat...

Have a friend that uses an old steer and he claims it does the job. The other thing I have noticed is when cattle are mixed they will ride more. When we synchronized we use to bring our cows in with our heifers and it seemed to promote more riding

We are extremely happy with our gomer bull.  He was a August calf that at about 300 lbs we had the vet down and made him a side winder.  He will be 3 this August and has done an excellent job. Has a great disposition even when he is with the real bull.  I would recommend having one!  Cows will ride eachother just cuz at times.  The gomer bull does the real job,  seems to get the cows cycling better/consistantly when he is around.
