So had I steer kinda flare up today so I'm gettin a little bit worried and want to make sure he doesn't start bloating.  Hes on purina fitters edge and also the vitaferm sure champ but just started that hasn't really kicked in.  Also getting a little bit of grass hay.  Should I maybe add some baking soda in that feed say half pound a day hes getting around 21 pounds of grain and he weighs 885 he usually doesn't eat it all though.  Maybe get a bloat block out there for him I don't know any ideas that I can have as a daily deal to prevent it.

First you should increase his grass hay a bit and never feed him more show ration than he will clean up. If you feel that he needs more condition then change the ration to accomplish that. 21 lbs is more than an 885 lbs steer needs at this time to ensure he builds enough rib shape. If he is behind then heat up the ration a bit.

We have always had good luck with baking soda. We've tried it all and that has been a consistent go to that has never failed. We usually start them on a couple tablespoons a day in there feed and just back them off of it as the bloat goes away. You can have this added to your feed if you have a mill custom mix your feed as a anti bloat plan. It may not work on every calf but it has always worked for us. We just add it to the calves feed individually so we know how much each calf is getting.
