Ive been rasing steers for about 5 years and they have all shown slicked. Now for my final year ill be getting a heifer and i was wondering what would be some good supplements to feed or to apply to her coat that help keep it healthy and growing.

Thanks,
Steve

For hair growth you can try shag by steirwalt sold at sullivans, we had great hair growth down here in southeast texas in the heat of summer. Nothing beats the wax on wax off method!! Brush, comb, brush comb, over and over. Nothing looks better than a hairy groomed heifer!! O0

Keeping you cattle rinsed is the key to having good hair on cattle in Texas, if, you don't have a cooler or fans with a mister system.  We feed some of the Shag product and really could not tell the difference.  Like stangs13, nothing replaces good hard labor.

If you are really serious purchase the Kirk Stierwalt DVD on hair care.  He gives you everything from the basics to conditioning and growing hair.  It is really worth the investment.  We have the entire set of DVDs.  He also has tips on his site and that changes periodically.  Good Luck

I alternate strokes with brush and comb straight down, then forward, then 45 degree angle up, I also pull all the leg hair up. I do all of this wet. This is very important that you do this so the hair will train. Keep them under constant fans, and rinse/wash and train hair everyday.

I agree with stangs13...wash with soap about once a week and rinse off everyday. Brush and blow out heavy water, comb forward over the whole body, put in front of the fans until dry. Then spray, comb, and blown in kleen sheen or revive to condition the hair and skin. Repeat every day if you are serious about growing hair!

We use a product called Epic, it has worked for us. It's about $90 for the whole container but was worth it. Last years steer had so much hair, it was great!
