We just got finished sonogramming two year old, 1st calf heifers that we bred back on Dec 4/5.  These heifers are going to the Fort Worth Commercial Heifer Sale.  We had great heats this year which helped us overall a bunch - amazing what a wet spring and summer with real grasss does for them.  Anyway, five of these girls were AI'd to Monopoly and all five stuck.  I was really surprised.  Because of concerns I'd read about on him and the fact his semen is apparently getting hard to get, we only bred him to the girls that showed good heats.

The semen we bought had been collected in mid November 09 at REI.  It's good stuff to get that kind of success on two year olds.

We checked a group of 17 and 14 of them stuck AI (thanks to the work of ZNT by the way).

Anyone interested in some good two year olds, calved out, and ALL AI'd back (confirmed to Monopoly, Troubador, and Smooth Sailing), we have a pen that will be in Fort Worth in two weeks.

Great news!

I'm glad you got along well.  I had gotten some in Sepember with all the talk I was worried.  Those cows  sound like a valuable commodity, good luck at the sale!

When i buy semen I don't want it to be like buyin chips at a casino , theres plenty of casino's around  to loose money at ....an it would be a lot cheaper cause you know how much you have spent, your not putting it in a cow an wait an see,
These big outfits that sell bulls that are to fat an sure they will breed some day, in to days bussiness if you loose a heat or a cow turns up open it costs you money, they can give you another bull but the truth is you lost time an money....I'm not trying to start trouble but that is just how it is .... An for you people that got along great , that is great , but for us that haven't
an we hear  how geat the calves are an I really think they are, it just makes it a little harder to accept ...

If you have that kind of luck rebreeding first calvers, the sement has be be great and the grass deep!  Also, some pretty good management I bet.

Did you have trouble with Monopoly?  About the time Matt got me my semen on him is when there were posts on here talking about and I was fairly worried.  Like I said, the only heifers I used it on were ones that showed real good heats on synchronization.

Honestly, those results are atypical for us.  We do good to get 50% on rebreeding first calvers AI.  These 16 were pulled out of a group of about 50 for this sale.  We didn't check the whole bunch.  Most of them showed good heat, but we still usually only wind up around 50% on groups like this we check every year.

The good Lord really blessed us with fantastic rain and grass all spring and summer and it really made the difference.  These girls were just running on native grass, certainly not heavily fed.
