Just wanted to share the good news we got on a flush of our new donor CF DZ Fool 37 TPX. We flushed her to DF Waco using 5 sexed heifer units and one conventional unit. We got 28 good eggs! That is by far the most I have ever had out of a cow and being that it is this mating we are very excited. We will try to get some pregnancies this year.

Hey that's great JTM!!!! It sure makes you forget about those flushes where you only get 1 or 2 or even worse, NONE. Just curious, what made you use decide to use so much semen?

Well, I have heard from others who use sexed semen that you want to use more than two straws and throw in a conventional unit at the end. Since the actual sperm count is much lower in the sexed units and we have plenty of sexed Waco semen, I decided it would be beneficial to use that many to ensure the embryo's would be fertilized. I new that she had a chance of producing a lot of eggs also. I won't be advertising them as sexed embryo's or sexed heifer pregnancies but will include the info.
I guess I could have got burnt and came up with none but I trust the guy that was flushing her...

Understand. We just usually use 3 straws of sexed. Just hadn't ever heard of using that much.

It's my first experience flushing with sexed semen. I have heard that most people have trouble using it to flush with. What has your experience been?

We have had very good results with some donors since we started deep breeding. This is not something for an amateur to do as a straw of semen is deposited after the horn of the uterus is pulled over the pipette until the end of the pipette is near the far end of the horn and the semen is then deposited. I won't try it myself, but my ET vets do it and we have some donors who have doubled the number of fertilized embryos we get. We have one donor in particular who never had more than a maximum of 8 grade 1 embryos but since we started to deep breed, she has produced between 15 to 24 grade 1 embryos. Like I said, it is something for an very experienced tech to do as it is possible to damage the wall of the uterus, if you don't know what you are doing. We have seen much better results in almost every donor we have done this on, but it takes 4 straws of semen rather than the regular one or two as you deposit a straw in each horn in each breeding. Seems to be working for us anyways
