My son in Iraq is waiting on a plane to bring him home for two weeks.  He will be in Dallas Friday or Saturday.  He was to be in early Friday but the helicopter he was on had troubles and he missed his flight.  Thanks for your prayers.

XXCC will be at my place about 1:00 a.m. with my new bull I bought from him.  His # is 380226.  He is not kin to any of my animals except Midas a few generations back.  Mike would have been here earlier but he and his Dad had troubles with snow.  I hope he brought some with him.

I plan on being at the Maine Anjou sale on Saturday in Fort Worth.  I hope to meet many people who I consider friends that I have never met personally in the Maine Anjou business.  Several I have bought semen from, others like Jack Jabara (Telos), and some Texas breeders that I have visited with.....  Cattle people are wonderful people, for the most part.

Terry (Cowboy) you are a great guy!  So are so many of you on this thread.  Keep your hearts tender and caring.

I forgot to ask:

Any of you going to Curt Richardson- BMC Cattle Company sale in Orangeville, IL on Saturday?

There are some young cows there that I would really like to buy but it is a long way for me to haul them and our drought has not lifted.  I do not have any wheat up and what little did come us is dying.

If you someone goes, please keep the prices for me.

there are several polled fullbloods.  epinal or epinal 240c is a carrier (he's horned) as there is direct daughters who are polled.  mcelroy i think has a polled bull, which might be map alberta power 20g or something similar
siewarts mr. etula 36g may be a carrier, as well as ptr epinal 81e, as well as stenbergs key ma 26k

here are some polled reg #'s that sold in jerry gibson's sale a while ago including one scurred one.

318170 scurred
298492 polled
303012 polled
298495 polled
287607 polled
295292 polled
295290 polled
295291 polled

let me tell you, there should be a renaissance for full blood maines, but gotta be careful about rib shape.  xxcc probably has lots to say aobut this, he had a polled bull marketman, and could probably tell you who in his ancestry were polled carriers.

the fullboods are UNDERUTILIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe Boy -- thisis greatnews for sure. I for one couldn't be happier for you. Alot has changed since the day I left home to go to Viet Nam.

Once you were over there back then, you were simply THERE till th end or it was your time to leave. No vacations for us.

I remember the day I left for over there, Dad and Mom were standing there in tears watching thier 18 year old leave, possibly forever. Dad was WW II vet, Iwo Jema no less, so he knew. When I finally got home, they were again standing there in tears -- THAT will be your son's reward Joe -- don't hide the emotions partner -- the best men I ever knew in my life could cry if need be !!!

Congrats --enjoy the time with him, as he will have an even harder time going back - now knowing what he up against in that hell hole of a sand dune! I am proud of him FOR you!

Also thanks for the nice comment -- as Knabe said earlier --this is my payback for help recieved from many unkowns years ago, make ya proud to be an American don't it??

You must be so very proud of your son!  Please tell him, that what he is doing is so wonderful and because of him and others like him we sleep in peace at night!  God Bless him!
It sure speaks worlds of you and your family as well!  There are no words that can say how thankful I/We are for his service and bravery.  I will pray for his safe perminant return :)

forgive my stupidity on the inheritance for a second.  how is this possible unless parentage is faked somewhere, or that there is some other inheritance for this gene that is not dominant, ie polled.  what about and Sf gene (from zebu and therefore gerts) in maine's?

also, found a clue why polled may be real in maine's, inthat the gene is on the end of chromosome 1 and the ends of chromosomes are more susceptible to mutation.  this could happen, particularly if an older bull is collected and used, and all you need is one lucky sperm where before the bull was horned, now he is polled and no "masking" gene is necessary.

First let me thank one and all for such wonderful comments toward our son and the others who have served in this conflict.  Our nation with all her warts and skint places is still the best in the show ring.

Second, I put the number down wrong:  380225 is the correct #.....  he has scurs and is 95.71%  His sire is Marketman who is a FB and polled.  Many of the real old bulls and cows in the breed were polled.  Coca Cola's dam was polled, Midas dam and sire were polled as well as his paternal grandsire.  Some bulls going back to pre-import days were polled.  I do not believe that being polled was a quality that was bred for in many herds.  Some old timers bred away from polled bulls as there was a stigma attached to polls of having less quality or they did not grow as well.... at least that is what I remember as a kid hearing said.

Terry, I cried every time he left or came home during his first tour over there for the war.  I am going to Dallas early tomorrow and see him.  His wife wanted a party just for her and the kids today.  If the ice lifts he will be in Dallas some time after noon.  He and I have a special relationship.  When he went for the war he was all fired up and big ideas, and I looked him in the eyes and cried and said you will learn a great deal about the pain of war son.  He has told me things he has not told others.  He said "Dad they wouldn't understand."  Dad does and it is special...  He told me after being home from the war that he did not need all the counseling that the Veit Nam war vet's were offering at the post office on Wednesdays and he would not go and thought the others were silly.  But he could not watch TV over 10-15 minutes and he would go wash his pickup three times a day.  When we went to a track meet where his son was participating and they fired the starter gun and kid did not stop and they fired it three more times, I picked him up off the ground and we cried.  He later told me of crying as he tried to treat little children who had been shot, who were the same age of his children.  War is hell and too many do not know it first hand.  Thanks Terry!

Telos:  No I think he is taking his boys fishing if the weather will let him.

Thanks again to all of you.... he will go back in two weeks and that is a  tough deal.

i looked up a few more polled from horns.  cococa cola is listed as horned, perhaps it was mistakenly scurred?  might this be the issue with the polls from "horned"

perhaps someone has a story of polled offspring from formly horned producing bulls with horns.  this would validate the unstable region of chromosome 1.

Goosbumps JB -- believe me I know, been there --I didn't need "Counseling" iether at 19 -- but it took 30 years to get past the sounds of gunfire. Tell him to go to the place where the vets are offering help, and if nothing else, just shake thier hand. Watch closely and you will see him swell up like a balloon full of water --it's called PRIDE

God bless you and your's --it will pass, but takes time! My 2 purple hearts are pinned on my dad's chest - along with my respect!
