Goretska Show Steers first Texas Sale
« on: February 03, 2019, 03:15:31 PM »
I recently saw a sale come up on Steerbidder for Goretska Show Steers based in Abilene TX.  I had heard a year or so ago that Tracy was considering running a Texas operation but am not certain if that is in addition to the Iowa location.

Wish them the best.  I know that there are a lot of extremely talented clippers and fitters in the country.  I don't believe I am qualified to say who is the "best" and believe that to be somewhat of a personal taste as much as anything.  For what I like and how I like one to be presented...I don't know that it gets any better.

Agreed, guess he got tired of the iowa winters (lol)
I like that he is still humble and treats everyone with respect .  Hes forgot more than some of these "big shots " will ever know .

Ya know, Tracy is just a polite person.  He will generally take a second for a few words, even when he is busy at a show.  I enjoy watching him clip.  The dexterity that guy has is incredible.

Does anyone know why he decided to move to Texas? I heard it was a complete move. He sold his house and everything in Iowa. I wonder if he will still have his fall Iowa sale every year? I do not know why he wouldn't still have an Iowa sale. He has a ton of costumers here in Iowa and the surrounding states.

I assume he's tired of mud snow and cold winters ;), No I don't know, but good luck to Tracy and his family.

I would certainly think he would still have a sale in Iowa.

Over the years, there have been other Club Calf operations to operate in the north as well as Texas.  One thing that I have been noticing is that the Fort Worth steers really aren't that much different in age than the northern State Fair/KC/Louisville steers.  They used to be completely different in age and were not interchangeable in the slightest.  Not as much difference now.  So, it is likely easier to bump into "holdover" sized steers while out scouting for the usual stuff every summer and fall.

There are just SO many more steers sold in TX.  Way more customers close by.

There's more customers in Texas because there's just so many more livestock shows that pay good money in Texas.

FW, San Antonio, Houston, San Angelo, Austin, Odessa, State Fair in Dallas, West Texas State Fair, a handful of others that I'm not even aware of I'm sure and then county fairs all over, all times of the year it seems like.

Texans are fortunate they have so many options to get rid of steers at. Us northerners don't have that luxury.

Your points are valid, but you missed what I believe to be one of the most important components as to the reason there are so many more steers in Texas.

There are almost 30 million people in Texas!!  Therefore, more people showing livestock.
