Ok we are fairly new to the show steer/heifer deal.  We own some really good pure charolais cattle and was wondering if they might work to get some of these charolais cross clubby type calves if bred right?  Give me some ideas on sires.  Would they have enough hair in the first generation to compete?  Thanks guys/gals.

Here is a Monopoly Money from a Pure Bred Simmental.  The cow has some hair, but her other calves from Angus and Simmental bulls have had typical hair.  This guy is yak-haired by comparison, and I think the Angus influence of Monopoly and Monopoly Money really worked on the Pure Bred mama.  I think he could work on the right Charolais P.B. as well.  Not on heifers though.

Monopoly makes the best smokes or silvers, what ever you want to call them hands down. I would suggest sticking to Monopoly genetics with them, he has a clone and lots of up and coming progeny out there. Don't use him on heifers but on second calves and after you will be fine. He will make great steers and heifers alike, he is one of the few bulls out there that does this consistently off of Char cows.

Yea, I would'nt try this on heifers.  Are some of the competitive calves half pure bred?

Here is a Highliner out of a purebred charolais cow that won the Regina spring steer show a few weeks back in Canada. Really nice steer - got the picture from the Charolais Banner website. Not mine but was down at the show - very nice looking steer.
