Not to beat a dead horse in the ground about feed rations, but......... (I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for)

We are looking at using this (trying to use a cheaper alternative mix than complete show feed because of $$$$) and are curious about the % of corn to oats ration when mixed with this for growing and finishing steers and heifers.  Heifers need to be "fat" to compete.
All things considered equal, what would be a good growing and finishing percentage of corn and oats to use with this? (and still finish steers while keeping hair!!)  Not neccessarily looking for a ration, but a standard percentage to go by and we can adjust if need be.  For those who use this, any advice/help would be greatly appreciated

Not sure but Jill has a ration(using the Grand T flyer) and her cattle always look very good! She could tell you.

Found it, not sure of how to post the thread so I'll just copy it.  I don't know how you would figure percentages, maybe you can figure that out from what she gave me.
Here is the recipe our feed rep gave us and we were very pleased with it, we fed it for about a year and a half, we have gone to the honor premix because it is a little bit cheaper with the same basic ingredients, I have also included the specs for it.
2200  Pound mix
Crimped Corn-1030
Oats-230
Cottonseed Pellets-70
Cottonseed Hulls-60
Molasses-Wet-100
4 T Fyer-500
Alfalfa Dehy Pellet-100
Beef Supermix B-1800-110

Here is the Honor, we had it figured using both soyhulls and oats, we tried and weren't happy with the soyhulls, it was a really dusty, fluffy deal but it was about 30 dollars a ton cheaper, anyway we feed with the oats.  In comparing this it is not what they are grinding at my feed mill for me, so I will let you know after I talk to them what the differences are.

I am by NO means any kind of expert, shoot you can barely consider us amateurs but we tried this too.  We found in small portions it didn't save us any money but we weren't mixing by the ton.  Just by the day basically.  We based our % off of the other feed ration tags but if you look up their website those guys are good about talking with you.

It was cheaper for us, but we are buying 6 ton at a time, may not be as economical if feeding 1 or 2, if you have your own grain available it will be much cheaper.

Your area Purina dealer has flyers available with a variety of rations to fit your area of the country and the feedstuffs that are typically used in your area.

The information our Purina dealer had would only take the ration up to about 12.5% protein.

We use Ration #5 i dont have te numberss  in front of me but (dont quote me) its somthing like 8 bags of show chow, we also add 2 bags beet pulp, 1 or two barly, 50 pounds of liquid fat (similar to sweet tooth which is purinas mollassas) and 4 or 5 oats and then i wanna say 400 pounds corn. bags are 50 pounds so the math come out accordinly. its an awsome ration we love it its expensive but cheaper than compleet feed. its the way to go

Looking at those suggested rations if you were wanting to keep it simple the corn, oats, molasses, fortifier would be good and the corn, oats, cotton seed, molasses, fortifier for a grower would be good and economical.  Does anyone know about what the price is per bag of the purina fortifier, thanks
