I have seen cattle that I liked from him, but I have heard that he is a difficult calver. Anyone use him, and how did he calve? Would he work on mature commercial cows?

We have used him several times. Nice calves. Two sets of twins out of him.
One steer was reserve champion market steer at our fair, and one we sold was champion market steer at their county fair.
Only the twins needed some help, otherwise the rest were born unassisted.

I'm sorry to report that they are the biggest calves I have ever had and no Heatwave has ever been in the same ball park with them. I think you'll find people on both sides of this. Very inconsistent. Downside is too big for me.

Thanks Gonewest, That isn't what I wanted to hear, but it concurs with what I had already heard.I looked at some very nice young cows from him yesterday, but I don't believe I am ready to test him yet. I really appreciate the input from you folks. Earl

Olsun, I think that you need to try some Ground Zero so I can come & look @'em. I went through Kroupa's Sweetheart sale catalog last night and my 2nd pick of the donors was a Ground Zero x Jack Frost. I also had another Ground Zero in my top 5. My advice to you would be to use him and the boss will let us know if he is too much. Brent

Well I wouldn't want to get you fired from such a great paying job. Did you get the Sweetheart sale catalog? Brent

If you do go to Kelly's, will you slip down to Lauterbach's and go through their offering? Brent

Depends allot on your cows genetics too. We had a calf two years ago out of Hard Core. 120 lbs. Hard pull. This cow has big calves no matter who she is bred to. She has nice calves though. We had two others bred to Hard Core that year, they were  born unassisted.
We are going to the Kelly sale too. We have bought some nice replacements there in years past.

I see that Lauterbach's sale has a Ground Zerobull that looks pretty good in the picture. I liked quite a few of the Ground Zero heifers last year. Brent

A friend of mine leased ground zero a couple years ago for his fall herd.  I think the heifers out of him should be calving this coming fall.  I'll let u know how they turn out for cows..

Dusty how did the calves come when he had them as babies? I have only ever saw one Ground Zero. She came from Bob May and was shown by a local fella. She was nice did okay. she was larger framed. Long bodied.

He never complained about calving problems so I think they were probably average.  He doesn't have any clubby bloodlines in his herd though.  Just bigger simmy angus cows so he usually doesn't have problems with his cows having calving problems.

Another bull that is bred very similar to Ground Zero that seems to be appearing more & more is Nutt-N-Butt business. Ground Zero is Strictly Business x Buck x Black Maximizer & Nutt-N-Butt Business is Strictly Business x Black Maximizer. I see that Olhrichs must have used Nutt-N-Butt Business some and have seen some very good daughters personally out of him. Brent
