Okay so my school district just sent me a email about a free clinic for my kids to get the shots. How many of you have gotten the shot and should I get the kids there? I am torn about this one, we are a healthy family for the most part with no underlining health problems.  Frostie

I didn't get them for my family, in my mind there just hasn't been enough testing done to justify the need to rush it to market.  I would probably take the risk if the family had health issues, but for most people I just don't see the need.

I got the Nasal Spray for the simple reason that I work as a FireFighter and we are constantly running EMS calls where we are 1st to the person and I didn't want to catch something.

im a high school teacher...i didnt get it...and i didnt let my little girl get it...i was really torn about it, but just worried about the side effects, etc...before the vaccine was available, my daughter had the h1n1 virus, a mild case, the doctor wouldnt even prescribe her anything, said it would be best to let her body fight it off and build immunities...

Yes, I work in the health arena.  Yes, I got the shot, whole family got it with no ill effects.....except for this darn twitch!!!    JUST KIDDING NORMA!

In fact, we are exposed to the masses every day, lots of sick folks pass through our doors.  Everybody in our office of 10 people got the shot, except one.  She was in bed with the swine flu, and a persistant temp of 102 for 7 days.  The minute she got back to work, she got the shot.

About the vaccine:  it is manufactured the same way the seasonal flu is made, just using the different strain of influenza.  Regionally, Frostie, 90% of all flu in Colorado is Type A H1N1....we all have given up testing....waste of resources.

My opinion is that the public schools have packed classes and parents who hesitate to keep kids home from school when sick, so it is good to protect your kids from the flu.

ALSO, As anyone on here knows, the National Western is the show for coming home SICK!  Try to get your free flu shot by Jan 1, so you can enjoy the show.!

I got the dead shot.(needle) The needle is the dead virus and the nasal is the live virus. People over I think 50 are not suppose to get the live vaccine. No side effects except a bruise where they gave me the shot. lol

I've had the shot.  No side effects.  Go to CDC or www.flu.gov for info.

If H1N1 follows the pattern of '57, another wave will hit in Jan.-Feb. with lots of deaths.

Pediatric deaths with H1N1 (especially under age 5) have been much, much higher than with seasonal flu.

At our high school about half the students got the vaccine.

In a 1918 type situation, one-third of the people would be required just to take care of the sick.

I, like many, received the shot.  I coach/teach and my daughter has been known to come down with an asthma attack.  My son is healthy as a horse, but I could not take the chance of myself, wife, or son getting it and being as good as you can be with it, only to pass it along to my daughter, who already has resp. issues.  Needless to say, we all got it at work (school).  No side effects from anyone except my son who mentioned that his arm was sore.  He is 7 though, so ..... he may have ran into a door in day too and not mentioned THAT to anyone!  I haven't heard of any ill effects at our school..... but that could change in the morning.  Now if they could only draw up some common sense, work ethic, and a plethora of other traits that seem to be missing in mass where I teach, like would be good today!

After getting the seasonal flu shot a couple years ago my brother contracted Gillian beret (sp?) syndrome. This is an autoimmune disorder that paralyzed him from the waist down. Thankfully we caught it in time and had a good medical staff and they were able to reverse it. This is one of the problems that can arise from the flu shots. They did a story on AOL a few weeks ago about kids getting this disorder from the H1N1 shot. My brother used to have allergic reactions to shots when he was little but we were going to China and decided it would be best to get all of the shots before we went. Sadly, my brother spent 3 weeks in the hospital when we returned to the USA. Just my thoughts.

H1n1 has hit us extremely hard.  I thank god have not caught it.  My best friend and her little girl both caught it and they had the shot  a month ago they r still on their seven day quarantine.  I have elected not to get it bc just a month ago my fourth four year old cousin died from h1n1 she was a school teacher and she had the shot.  The doctors here keep telling us that the virus is mutating so much it really doesn't matter if u get the shot anymore.

Our Pediatrician actually advised me not to have our kids immunized for H1N1.  Said it was produced too fast, not tested and she is worried it may not be safe.  My daughter actually became ill 2 months ago with flu-like symptoms.  Pediatrician labeled it as H1N1, treated with Tamiflu, and all was fine after 2-3 days.  No one else in the family became ill.

I don't know how many of us on the Planet watch the Today show each day, but I almost never miss some of the start of the show. Big recall announced today on the Today show. The batch was not strong enough. MO is that by the time they get it figured out, we are all going to have natural immunity.

Made the appointment for tomorrow at 5, will let you know how it goes.

Cowz- I would award your twitch to your husband before blaming the shot. Hows his eye anyway?

Cab- I saw that too and will be asking questions before we get close to a needle.

Well picked the kids from school and went to get the shot. Found out there was a choice of the shot or squirt up the nose. Kids went with the squirt and all seems well for now. If anything new happens will let you know. Frostie

My sister is in the military and had to get the vaccination.  She came down with H1N1 yesterday.  Confirmed.  I will not be getting the shot.
