Hello this is my first year showing cattle and could use some help with hair. My fair is in the beginning of August and don't know if I am in a good standpoint with his hair. Before summer hit his hair was the fuzzy winter hair and there was a lot of it. Now his winter hair has fallen out and it is long, not as abundant, not as thick as before. It is also tough to work with. We just finished our barn and will move him in today. We didn't build a cooler but it stays cool inside. I would just like to know what to do everyday with his hair.

Well I have a pen built and run mist fans on a timer I rinse in the morning before work and right when I get home but after I rinse I put him back under fans for a while
If you leave the calf wet it damages hair like no other(retains more heat)
Keep it dark and if you can rinse 3-4 times a day I just don't have the time
Constantly comb and keep the bedding clean and if it's really hot try to keep him under fans till dark I attached a pic if my pen so you get an idea

Do you blow out calf after rinsing or just put under fans ?

Blow out but I have been told that if you leave them under fans and stand there and comb the hair forward that it will help as well

Rinse and comb as much as possible. Just like said above don't leave them wet. I rinse 3 times a day. I get them before the sun comes up from the turn out and rinse then feed. Rinse around lunch. Then I rinse right before dark and turn them out. Let as little sunlight as possible touch them. Hope this helps :)
