Stabilized Rice Bran - ADM's Healthy Glo is a great product.  1 pound per day, and gradually work up to 2 pounds.  Wil add smooth Fat and also improve Hair.

How long before your target show date should you feed it? Or, about how many pounds should a steer be before starting it? Last year we put a steer on it, and I think he got to fat to soon. We fed it starting in March and he was finished by June, but was a small framed steer.

dried kelp meal. all the high doller foof is based from it. you can get the organic stuff but i like tasco. but it can be a pain to find a dealer. comes in 50lb bags for $60. only feed around an ounce/head/day. 3 wks till you notice the hair getting super soft and easy to work and takes off. they wont shed out in stages like melatonin based products.

AAOK - is this a product that you would feed to fall bred heifers going into show season? Thank you

I have fed bred Show Heifers 1lb/day up to a month from calving, and had no problems.

Have you been using Melatonin tablets.  Quite honestly we have just as much luck going to the local drug store and purchasing Melatonin tabs for about 3.00 a bottle than all the expensive hair growth products.  We had a Simmi heifer last state fair that started off with no hair, granted we use the tablets all year long but we had really good hair come state fair.  She was kept in an old milk house with just a window air conditioner and cool bot kept between 55 and 60 and was rinsed twice daily.  We had awesome hair!!  Also our feed already has some hair growth supplements added already.  Just my bit of advise.  Hard work is the best for hair growth.
