I have a steer that is loosing hair, he has not been washed and has been treated 3 times with Ivomec in the past 3 months but the hair keeps falling out.  He is eating free choice grass hay and a rolled barley ration and free choice minerals.  I am wondering what could be causing the hair loss as well as flaky skin?  Thanks for the help

Lice and sunburn were my first thoughts as well, but he has been treeted 3 times for lice and we have only had 3 hours of sun in the past three weeks here in Manitoba.  This has me at a loss.

What kind of ivomec?  Injectable? Pour-On?  Are you using it according to label instructions?  Correct dosage?  Could it be out of date?

I think I'd try a different delouser - maybe cydectin.

It was a pour-on Ivomec, not expired and used according to directions.  Will ring worm make him loose hair in big patches or in smaller spots with scabs?

Ring worm will make the hair fall out in patches with scabs. We have it terrible this year and are just now getting it killed. It almost makes me cry to think of how bad our excellent steer looks since he got this.

Is it coming out in clumps or is he just shedding? It is that time of year.

It is coming out in clumps and has been off and on all winter.  It looks like lice with bad dandruff but like I said has been treated for this.  I have never had this problem for this long before.

Could be scabbies or mange. I don't think that Ivomec kills lice eggs. The eggs could be reinfesting then re hatching. May be time for the vet. I treat and retreat in 2 weeks. Eprinex is a lower dose but I treat them once per month in the winter months now, seems to work.
