Can hairy wart cause a calf to pop in his pasturn? We have a steer that pops in the pasturn really bad and last week we had the hooves trimmed and the hoof trimmer cleaned up hairy wart and wrapped the hooves. We took the wrap of yesterday and when my daughter took the wrap off she cut the back of his hoof. Could he be popping from the hairy wart? What can we do to help this. He is the first steer that has actually gained weight like we want and now we have this problem.

For popping pasterns, I suggest one of the following: Multi-min, Copasure, BoSe or MuSe. I have had success with all of them. Just depends what I have handy at the time.

Did you treat the hairy heel with anything besides the wrap?  I will assume the trimmer put something on it before he wrapped it.

Did this start only after the wrap came off?

The cut might hurt some or if his hoof got real wet while wrapped it might be a bit soft and tender at first.

Is he on a really good mineral program?
