So I have looked up some of the older post on here about hairy warts, we have a cow with a sore ankle, she walks fine and stands on it fine but when something touches her dewclaws she immediately lifts her foot and shakes it out behind her, we had the hoof trimmer out yesterday and found that the skin is broken around the dewclaws and slightly infected.  is it possible that they can get hairy heel warts around the dewclaws?

I would call your vet. Last year we had a heifer that had hairy heel wart. It was more at the base of her heel. We had been treating it as foot rot, but after a couple days there was no improvement so we had the vet out. Hairy Heel Wart is also contagious so it is best to get it treated as soon as possible.

Yes they can get hairy heel warts around the dewclaws however not common, mostly seen in tissue above heel bulbs.  Also I would assume if that is what it was all hoof trimmers would have wrapped topically with tetracycline powder. I would get it checked out, if you post pics we might be able to give other advice.

Yes it is possible and bad news is once they get it they seem to again. Get hoof trimmer or you can your self cut if off wrap with vasoline and tetracyclene powder for 5-10 days.
