I think he'd do well but I've only used him on Maines but love what I've gotten.

I used him on my angus heifer last year and got a heifer that should make a pretty decent cow.  She is nothing real flashy but she is deep bodied, long and has lots of hair.

I'm no expert on him..  we have one calf.  ;)  So far, I'm impressed but if they all come in the size he did, you could run into calving problems on the wrong cows.    We've got another one due any time now.

I bred 2 heifers to Hard Core a couple years ago. Number one...he was not easy calving and Number 2 they were terrible calves. Both were big framed, tall and no thickness at all. I myself, would never use him again. But he might work on deep bodied angus cows.

We got our 2nd HC calf this evening.  Another bull but not quite as big as the other.

I used him on some moderate framed simX cows.  I'll know more how this worked this summer or fall.  Right now, both calves are big & square hipped.  They don't seem to be any leggier than the rest of the calves but who knows.

If hard core is a PURE BRED and black then he is a half blood shorthorn. If you bred an angus cow to a half blood shorthorn you would get a shorthorn plus as it would be 25%.

I was pretty sure that the Maine/ShorthornPlus deal worked out like if the Maine animal was Red and Purebred, or a Fullblood, then it would be a 3/4 Shorthorn... I don't know anything about registering purebred black Maines.

Anything Black in the ASA book can only ever bee 50% if it is out of Maine or Shorthorn. If the maine is PUREBRED   and black it can only ever be 50% in the Shorty book. When you register calves out of the sire that is black and 50% they would qualify for plus program as 25%. Doesn't matter at that point if they are red or black they are 25%.

I have seen success with Hard Core on moderate framed deep bodied Maine/Angus, Angus, and Shorthorn cows.  If his calves don't get too big, the ones I have seen are thick and good boned.

Marsh= I notice the cow in your profile pic. The same one in the Maine Catalog. Nice looking female.

Thank you OH Breeder for the compliment.  We are very excited about her.  The bulls we are selling are very nice and she had a couple of nice steers we sold last Fall.  She is young and has a great future we think.  We are expecting several calves from her this Spring and will be flushing her some more late in the Summer.
