I had about a125 lb calf two days ago that was a really hard pull. Cow went down but got up, calf is a big dumb calf. He doesnt walk a lot but he walks with his front feet way out in front of him, due to the hard pull. Anyone have experience with this, what is the best thing to do? I didn't hear anything pop, the calf is healthy, just needs a lot of coaching to nurse.

Great that he is up! He is just sore. Be patient. We had a reverse 120+ pull last year and it took her almost 3 days to even get up. She is fine now. May have to supplement with a bottle for a few days if need be and yes those big ones always seem a bit dumb. But he is prolly really sore.

My friend had one that was a really hard pull, and the calf ended up being mentally ruined. He is the dumbest thing you've ever seen. However, now the thing is a frickin tank and he gains around 4 pounds a day! He was a hired man x shorthorn

Heatwave et calf - 7 days past due. I had to pull on one leg more than other until I could strap on the other leg, he won't put any weight on the one I had to pull on more. I thought I might give him a little ban amine to help with the soreness.

I'm not a vet but I wouldn't use 3 ccs per hundred. One of our vets was here yesterday and he used 1/100 on a big calf.
I agree give it time. If he is up and getting around and nursing fine, I'd leave him alone.
We've had plenty of overdue Heatwaves and it does not equal a hard pull. It all depends.

Technically banimine isnt labled for pain. It works and yes 1cc/100. In my experience ET calves seem to go over due date so if ultrasounded confirmed i induce recips on due date if they are clubby. Glad u got it pulled without hip lock but sounds like next time u might call the vet

I have heard that for every 7 days they are over due, it is another 10lbs of body weight is added to the unborn calf.
