I am still fairly new to the club calf world, but I am trying to learn.

I have heard of Irish Whisky and Hard Whisky (I am assuming that they are related).  However, I thought they were just some of many bulls used, so I was surprised when I just saw semen on Hard Whisky currently at $200/straw and Irish Whisky semen at $475/straw on Breeder's World.  I am assuming that they are both diseased, but what about them made them so good that their semen is selling this high?  What kind of offspring did they produce in general?  Because I don't know much about them.

Irish Whiskey is an all-time great in terms of females. Hard Whiskey is a new bull that has the pedigree and looks to be the next great thing in terms of females....but he isn't producing semen at a high rate. So Irish Whiskey is that high due to being proven and dead (running out of semen). While Hard Whiskey is that high due to hype and shortage in semen.

And to answer the other part of your question, yes they are related. Hard Whiskey is out of an Irish Whiskey cow.

True, good point. Making Hard Whiskey's hype/potential that much bigger. He is a bull I loved from day one...but not at that price....

Is a bull's fertility not somewhat heritable to his daughters?  I am thinking a bull that is not producing that well, maybe I wouldn't want too many daughters out of him.  I know that scrotal circumference is related to fertility and is heriditary, but does the inability to produce viable semen not worry anyone else?

Just a thought, could it be that they CHOSE to just pull a bit of semen instead of large quantities for these exact reasons, so that the demand is higher, and it increases the value of calves out of him?  I have a friend with a large black angus operation, and with their new bull, they've only sold limited packages of semen, and now aren't selling anything for 2 or 3 years I think.  This should (as long as the calves are good), make it more valuable, because not many people have him.

Was thinking the same thing. Plus havent heard the best reports on Hard Drives milking very good and small pelvis seem to be a problem as well. Not sure how maternal that is. Will grant they are nice looking cattle.
