Hay prices

What is everyone having to pay for hay? I live in SE Colo. Our main crop is alfalfa hay. Today I had to go buy some hay for our horses and had to shell out $8 a bale. That's $240 a ton. Anyone want to buy around 40 horses? <deadhorse> That may happen if the price don't go down. 

Ooo, id pay $8 for alfalfa no problem. I'm in CA. We just finished baling grass hay and it's going for $10 a bale.

Wow!!!  I don't know what it would cost for trucking but I would sell either one my hay.  We round bale everything but we have some good quality alfalfa and it is goin for about $60 a ton.

Horse hay here is $8 to $10 a bale but it is the middle of winter.

When we lived in California, we were paying $12 to $14 for a small square, and they averaged about 110 to 120 pounds each. Out here (MO), alfalfa is about 4 to 5 a bale, but the bales might weigh 60 pounds. Maybe a little more, but definitely lighter. I never could figure out why bales are so much lighter out here...
I would have sold my horses a LONG time ago had I have to pay for their feed. They graze pastures now, and we bale our own property for when we need feed in the winter. I am down to 5 horses now, but would like a few less since we really don't do much with them any more. I just sold 45 large round bales for $25 each (a fescue clover mix).  Now I wish I had kept ahold of them! We hve had no real rain since May, and I might have to start feeding hay this summer! I usually do not drop hay till late December, January!!!

In GA I am getting some nice sized square bales for 5-6 dollars. The most I have paid for a round bale was 50, but it was really good hay that my horses devoured. Its a little rough down here, but not near as bad as it is in other places, so I'm not complaining

Its real high here in Texas!

Anyone in Texas have any horse quality hay for sale?

In Ca I paid $16 for alfalfa and oat/forage or whatever you can find is about $14 and it does not look as nice as it usually does.

Some of last year's Michigan hay is still around?

I am not sure but this year looks low?

I just talked to a local horse breeder and she said Alfalfa mix is going for about $4 a bale. Probably 50-60lb bales. I am still accumulating round bales for my cattle this winter but I'm thinking my hay has got to be worth around $40 for a 900lb round bale. It may be higher this fall and winter depending on the shortage from all of the pastures and hay fields going to corn and soybeans.

Strt alfalfa bales $5 - 6 per bale.
Alfalfa mix $5
Grass bales 3.5 - 4.5
1500 lb rolls of grass $30 to 40

Up here in Ontario,Canada hay is .0650 cents /lb and straw is the same price.

Here in Texas, if you can find it, 2 year old  (coastal mix) cow hay is going for $120 per roll. These are not the large rolls either. 4x5

I had posted some inquiries on here a month or so ago about hay.

Short story is I've found some in a couple of spots that can get it delivered into Texas whereever you area.  For beef cattle, if you can live with prairie hay or medium quality grass hay, shoot me a PM and I'll let you know what I've found.  Price is in the range of $75 - $90 per roll, with bale size ranging from 4x5 up to 1200 lb rolls.

Been sending semi loads of round bales of good alfalfa for 240 a ton to Texas. Its so hot it wont grow good though, We NEVER have problems with bugs but with this drought we have to spray for bugs and fertilize to get even half the tonnage/acre that we typically do. And everything is even irrigated. Cows are on CRP and in the feedyard as there is NO grass around.

Last year we were getting 120 a ton for horse alfalfa. This year we get 120 out of the field(they cut it and bale it)

Well I got lucky and found 44 round bales of this years bermuda, vetch, johnson grass mix for a very reasonable price here in Texas. 44 is all he had left but that will get me through the winter with what I already had.

whats the current prices like? I got a trucking company and was wondering if i could help the texas people out.
