If you have had calves by both bulls, give an idea on what you see as differences.  I think  a lot of people do not care to spend the $250/straw for breeding the run of the mill cows with Monopoly at this point if that is where the market is at.  If The Headliner had been used on thousands of cows would he have gotten the same results as Monopoly?

It is a numbers game with these bulls.  Same with Heat Wave.  If you were to breed 5000 cows to Hannibal, lets say, and flush about 200 to him of the top cows, would Hannibal then be worth $250/unit if rumors got around he was injured?  I do not doubt Monopoly is injured.  But I know of one ranch that leased Monopoly and said they will never use him again.  Got two good calves out of the entire deal.

So your thoughts.

Has anybody used both Bulls?  Maybe that is the problem with Headliner?

If you say its a numbers game and the most used bulls become most popular because they are over used then why do people keep using them year after year when it comes to breeding and flushing time. (Heat Wave, Monopoly, Who Made Who) I think its pretty obvious why these so called over used bulls keep on getting used, plain and simple they produce the most winners. If you don't believe this then don't use them and see where you get when it comes to sale time and more importantly showtime. If you want to talk about the price of semen, its pretty understandable why highly used bulls can raise in price. If there is a shortage and maybe possibility of limited production on a highly used bull why wouldn't the owners raise the price. Just like other things worldwide. If theres a shortage in pork production, prices rise. If theres a shortage in milk production, prices rise. You can go on and on with this concept, its pretty simple and easily understandable. Theres no reason to get on public, worldwide read forums and talk negatively on peoples lively hood and way to make a living. It'd be as if you were the owner of Ford I got on a vehicle forum and continually talked down you cars and trucks. Its not needed. If I didn't like Ford, I wouldn't buy one. Some bulls just are flat good and work on lots of cows, others don't. The ones that are good get used, the others you just forget.

Why do you specify that bull? There are many bulls that arent popular some. Why not try them all?  Maybe you could find the next HW Mono or WMW hidden in all them. If and when you do tell me and then ill try him.

thats kind of what i was wondering so did they use both sires? They said Headliner sales tripled but I would think the lack of Monopoly had something to do with it.

Yes, I've used The Headliner. Seems like another one of the Heatwave son's to me.

The reason why I ask this is because Monopoly has 2 well known brothers that have produced some winners under limited use compared to Monopoly.  There is no reason IMO to not find out if Headliner works and if he does there is no reason for anyone to waste money on Monopoly at the current inflated price.  Milk comes from many producers.  Pork does as well.  Monopoly comes from one producer and Headliner comes from another.  Both full brothers and possibly similar results if used under same conditions on same cows.  That is the unknown.  We may find that by the time Monopoly comes back, if he does, his price people paid was for insurance till Headliner was really discovered.

The calves are very similiar. If Lautners owned Headliner, I think he would be as heavily used as Monopoly. Lautners do a great job promoting bulls.

Headliner came out before Monopoly why was the younger brother discovered first. Better avertisement, or just a better bull. Headliner has been out one year longer and can still fit his winners on one page.

We produced all three of the brothers.
Hats off to you! That is quite an accomplishment!! We have nothing but great results with Monopoly.
We have one heifer out of him so far. She is a full sister to the steer we sold to Wade Rogers last year. Just had another Monopoly calf born 15 minutes ago. Another one due in a few days.

If I can remember correctly the headliner sold 500 units of semen in his first year. I doubt all the units were even used.

Well, that explains a lot.  Which bull did you like the best?

I want to be clear.  We like Monopoly as much as anyone and the Lautners have done a great job in promotion.  I am only looking for any alternative for Monopoly till he gets back and price goes back down.

In his phenotype Headliner is probaly a little better bull. Monopoly has more winners and was probaly used more. I have NOT seen one bad monopoly calf. I havent seen any bad Headliner calves either. But all the Monopoly's were above average as were the Headliners too. I think its a personal preference, but I think if you have a monopoly sired calf it will draw more interest. jmo Both are impressive in how they have thrown calves.

No prob, glad I could help. I think both are good. Right now I'd use the monopoly if I had it, but if things were tight or I was breedin to an average to decent cow, I'd go with headliner because of price.

I am going to try to solve this controversy.  I am going to flush the cow that had our best Monopoly calf this year to both Monopoly and Headliner.  When I get calves, I will post their calves.  But, it will not be till Fall 2011 before we get their calves  is the only problem.  (lol)
