What has your experience been using heifer synch protocols.  Any differance in success rates when using a heat detect  vs a fixed time AI protocol?

I use a CIDR + prostaglandin and visual heat observation on my heifers. We consistently get 90% of the heifers to respond and a 70% conception rate first service AI. I usually AI 25-50 heifers a year and schedule them a week ahead of my mature cows so we have time to dedicate to watching heat. I find heifers are very good about showing heat.

I'm open to the idea of a TAI on heifers but research trials show 55-60% conception to TAI. What I use works so no need to fix what isn't broken.

I mga heifers. Heat detect till about 84 hours then TAI non-responders and give GnRH

Bring cows in same day as I lute heifers off mga and lute them also breed anyone in heat, day 7 cidr non-responders day 14 lute them heat detect and TAI those non-responders.

Works great for me. I also use Kamars on cows. Estotect patches if I know I'm going to TAI them as they only need to be on for 4 days. Kamars I leave on untill she shows a heat.

Good luck.

I do almost everything TAI using CIDRs, prostaglandin and GnRH and have had great sucess on both heifers & cows. The only thing I breed on standing heat is the ones that come into heat when I pull the CIDRs. Makes scheduling the breeder nicer when you can say meet me at this date at theis time. A real lifesaver when you work off the farm.
