I was approached today by a gentleman selling exclusive
cloning rights to the cell line of Heatwave's dam.

I am told she was never cloned.

I thought this might generate interesting discussion.

What is the value of the cell line?
Cost to clone?
Is she pertinent in today's club calf industry?

I would appreciate it if comments remain positive and informative
in nature.

Thank you-

it will cost you way more to market the offspring than it will to buy the rights.

who would you breed her to?

heat wave was a freak. supposedly 150+bw.

cowtown was a clone of a champion steer.

he didn't seem to catch on.

how would offspring differentiate themselves from what's currently on the market other than "out of heatwaves' dam's clone.

tough road to hoe.

haven't people moved on from heat wave?

the cost to clone is something like 20K for the first animal, 10K per after that from a single session. horses i think are $100,000

it costs $1600 to preserve tissue and $150/year to preserve it.

i think i would pass unless i had a specific plan in mind.

It is way out of my league.

But if I did have a clone-
I would use a Charolais composite like Alias or maybe the
Shorthorn bull Bearcat.

Calves could be registered 1/4 blood Maintainers at least or
Shorthorn Plus if out of Bearcat.

I would much rather have a clone of Monopoly's mom.

If I had a clone of HW's dam, I think I'd have to use a bull like Made 2 Order or maybe a PB Maine? Comfort Zone? Alias would makd almost all throwaways...his one in 20 success rate scares me and I have never seen a Bearcat that I thought was outstanding.

I always thought if leased one of these bulls for 60 days, you could take it to get cloned.  I am not sure how discreetly it could be done.

Not sure about getting them cloned.  Very few labs are doing that......  COLLECTED.........  I would be surprised if that wasn't done

Besides that as soon as a DNA test was done they would know
