So I went out to work with our show calves this morning and noted a bit of blood on caudal side of my show heifers tail this morning, but there was no blood on or directly near the vulva.  But it was close to vulva level, and was looked kind of stringy.  She should be 74 days bred.  Im pretty sure she stuck the first breeding, because I was watching her like a hawk close to the time she should have been coming in the second time.  Now assuming she didn't get bred, I would have typically expected a missed heat 11 days ago (or somewhere in that vicinity).  There was zero activity by the steers she is currently with.  Its been hot here lately, but she has been in the barn under fans every day for the last month.  Currently weighs ~1150 lbs., she is on a little feed but she was getting a little chunky for me, so I've been cutting her back slowly for about 10 days. Should I worry about her not being bred, and bring in a vet to preg check her with an ultrasound? Any other opinions on what might be going on here?  Its been so long since I've played with heifers that I have forgotten if something like this is normal, so any advice or personal experiences would be great!

I would preg check her. Just because she is not at 21 day cycles didn't mean she didn't stick and pass one cycle then come back in. Those show heifer can be lazy and hard to catch in heat.

We had a heifer (not a show heifer) cycle back at about 80 days last year.  She had been with a bull at the time she should have cycled back at 21 days and basically up until the point she came up open.  I would get her checked and just know it happens.

Preg check her. Probably ten years ago I was at jr nationals and my heifer started bleeding like you are describing. I had the show vet preg her and she was bred. I had several guys say that sometimes they can bleed and slime a little and be ok.

Heres what I saw this morning.  Looked pretty flaky, no real substance or volume to the blood.

Looks like ovulation bleed to me.
Our Grandmaster heifer was 54 days bred. We had a appointment to have her checked next week for sexing calf. We were at regionals, and the week following she came into heat, no where near her expected cycle if she had cycled every 21 days. I know she was bred because I check for heats three times a day. We just figured she slipped her calf at regionals or soon after. That is the chance we take when we show. She was AId a week ago, right before loading to Nationals. Oh we'll, we will see. It happens.
