Had a heifer calve this week. She had colostrum, externally had all the signs. Dilated and had the calf without an issue. Calf ate some colotrum but she never formed a bag. We followed vets advice on Oxytocin and her milk never fully came in. Any ideas what may have called this?

Vet said pro- she had colostrum con- no continuous milk production
pro- she may be fine the next go around con- she may never produce milk.

visually very fertile stuck natural service and comes from maternal cow family.

I'd try leaving the pair penned up together for awhile.  Feed the heifer some grain, supplement the calf, but not so much that it won't try to nurse.  Sometimes they'll go ahead and come to their milk in a few days.  It still may not be much, but if you like her well enough to wait and see, she might be okay next year.

Try mixing a dairy supplement in with some grain for the hefier had a similar problem last year and it seemed to help her. Although to quote my grandpa "not every border collie works and not every black and white milks" there's unfortunately no guarantee.
