Ok gearing up for breeding season again soon and we have several heifers out of our Maine/Angus (large boned) cows that were sired by a Johnny Walker Red son.  We have all colors...
Baldies, Smokies with white faces, a few blacks, a cocoa, and a white heifer.
Do we just use angus low birthweights blacks on these?  Any other suggestions?  On 2nd year Paddy heifers can we do whatever or do I need to be careful with them also?  again suggestions...
Appreciate it!

Sounds like everyone else in the clubbie world. A bunch of crossed up clubbie X- breds. I guess I would pick my favorite PB calving ease bull or a couple depending on the number of heifers that you are going to be breeding and also breed for maternal traits. JMO

On breeding females for their second calves, I shy away from the known severe problem bulls (i.e. Heat Wave, Milkman), but otherwise use what you want.

On heifers, we use nothing but Angus anymore.  You have just as good a chance getting a good calf out of Northern Improvement or one of the Ohlde/Griswold/Duff type Angus bulls as you do a calving ease maine or crossbred.
