I agree with kfacres about it causing a calf to be born premature.  I absolutely wouldn't do it.  If you know the expected birth date, I would keep a close eye on her.  I had a cow with a  backwards calf that went over a couple of weeks.  We lost the calf but not the cow. Also,  when they go over the calf is gaining several pounds per day so expect a larger birth weight.

I wouldn't recommend either. The best thing you can do is keep a close eye on them.

I know a guy who has a calving pen for his heifers and in the  the barn theres a security camera in a cornerso he can keep an eye on them from his house.

Pretty cool idea if you ask me.

Thqt was why i wanted to induce them so their calves wouldn't get bigger. The 1st one was 14 days over and came out in three pieces. The next five i induced 3-5days overdue and i got all 5 turn out and healthy as can be so I would say if tou know for sure breeding date shoot em up.

I would consult your local vet. Have him come and palpate or ultrasound if you have the capabilities. If you are sure of the AI date and there was no live coverage then inducing on or shortly after due date is not a problem. The problem arise when you have live coverage and are off on gestation. You get premee's. I had a first time heifer last year I didn't induce and she ended up a section with a 105# calf that was a chunk. I have my cows vet checked because I am not that good on palpating and guess gestation. I have a great vet that has alot of bovine experience. Heifers are funny and I am always worried about them. I have a heated calving pen that we can pull heifers/cows into if needed to keep close eye on them.

One year we had used a clean up bull that was averaging 100 plus pounds. He did settle a couple of heifers by accident. I did induce them without issue. I had the vet check them and counted back on gestation calendar. They also were beginning to bag down and their vulva's were obviously swollen. If didn't see any of those signs then I might worry about being too early.

Not sure if I was any help but that is my two cents.
