My family has had a large herd of bucking bulls and cattle and are now incorporating beef cattle in our ranch. I have been interested in showing calves and now have the opportunity to do so. The only problem is that i don't know where to start and cant find any good sites with the information I'm looking for. I am totally new so I don't even know where to begin looking for cattle to start my herd because I don't even really know what to look for. So if someone could suggest any books or sites with a lot of information of throw in some of their own advice it would be very helpful. Thanks! :-\

Are you familiar with your county ag extension office? Somebody there should be able to point you in the right direction. I would start with evaluation & selection... Some information about breeds might be helpful. Tennessee has a Master Beef Producer class that producers can sign up to take...something like that would be really helpful in terms of production...not sure how much you would learn about showing.

I agree also on your local AG extension office.  Also a local FFA teacher or 4H or Junior Fair advisor can help.  If anything they could direct you to some other showmen in your area.
You could also contac the individual in charge of the beef committee at your fair.
