My daughter has a heifer that is a real nice heifer except for one big thing she is so short. Is there any thing we can ad to her feed that will help her grow. We've been feeding her a growing and the only way she grows is wide. Thanks

Unless she is really young, I mean like just a few months old, you got yourself a short heifer.

Most of frame size is genetic, you can change it some with feed, but you're not going to make drastic changes.

Any idea what her frame is?

I have a frame measuring stick so I when i get a chance I will measure her. She is very small framed I thought as she got older she would grow but so far no luck. She is 9months old and she is a real thick made calf so I think she could produce some real good calves but I will have to AI her to something that will add a lot of frame. Any ideas on what bull is great at adding frame?

Probably not a good idea for her first calf. I would use a proven CE sire.

You need to have her pelvic measured, many times really thick small made heifers also have really small pelvic areas.

No not for her first calf . First time I will use our herd bull he is an Ali son.

Spot on Jill. I would watch out if you breed her.

Just a thought but I find the short wide heifers can do real well at being a market heifer. Just a suggestion.

That's sure what we do with ours.  It takes some frame to compete in the breeding classes around here, the ones that just don't have enough
we have had very good luck running in the market heifer division, not all states have them, but from the way you describe this heifer she would probaby compete better in that class.

We we live heifers show by weight except for a couple of shows. She would never compete in an age class.
