I read a post on here some time ago, topic ringworm. Some were talking about a med called fulvision (not sure if spelled right). I called our vet to get some and was advised that it is no longer being produced. Anyone have any info?

I don't know if fulvison is till being produced, but it is for horses so he is not suppose to give it to you for cattle.  Not saying that some vets won't prescibe it for cattle.  My vet prescirbed a granule iodine that I mix with salt and add it to their feed.  That and I have been spraying the spots with iodine.  It is hard to get rid of in the winter.  I have tried anti fungal creams, blue star ointment, ringworm sprays and this seems to be working the best.  A lot of people use fluid film but I have heard that you shouldn't use it on their heads and around eyes and that is where ours mainly had it.  Good luck.

We've been worming (pour on and injectable),spraying with 7% iodine then putting Blue Star ointment with good results. Hair started back in a few days.

We have it bad this year. Just called the vet and he gave me shampoo and spray. Fulvicin he said was not very effective in rumen animals and expensive, $65.00 per head per dose. The spray and shampoo should have it gone in a few days and hair growing back. I will post later and let you know. We just got started. He did say that iodine and chlorides, like bleach, work but are slow.

It seems like it is bad at all of the shows that I have been too.  Would like to see them get a vaccine.

If you type in fulvicin for horses on a search engine you will find they have a generic version as well. You will also find sites where you can order it online with out a script.

im not sure if this problem is a ringworm or not but i have a fealing its some kind of fungus or something to do with his skin.. on the left non showside on my steer i noticed a spot  about the size of a golf ball that was rite on the side of his butt and there was no hair in that spot at all but he has so much hair it covers it up well lately ive been noticing a few more spots around the same area and it looks like its starting to thin his hair out just a bit on the side of his butt. i was just wondering what yall may think this can be or if there is anything i can put on it to keep it from spreading.. most of all i just want it gone and for the hair to be back before the next show!!

thanks,

Fulvision is expensive and doesnt work very good. Try athlele foot creme.

I've never had Fulvison not work & last year when I priced it, it was $9.00 per calf & vet reccomended 2 treatments, 2 weeks apart.

I searched the internet today and could not find the online Fulvicin without a Rx. I think we are killing our ringworm but I would love to use some Fulvicin to add confidence. If anyone knows where to get this please tell us. As I said my vet thought it was expensive.

i have heard of people taking a scraping of the ringworm on affected cattle and feeding it to non-affected cattle to build immunity.....i think it was in a bolus or something like that.  anyone have experience with that?

What about using Tinactin covered with new liquid bandage to keep it air tight?  Anyone ever try that?

I tried searching for fulvicin for horses and it came up on yahoo. Comes in pills or powder. Probably from Canada though. The have generic version as well. The guy at our feed store orders all types of medicine. Could see if he could get some and what the cost is. All the local vets here only work on cats and dogs so we go there when we need something.

This may be a stupid question, but is there a ringworm injection or vaccine?

Ringworm is a fungus, same as athletes foot.  So yes they will get it again if the conditions are right, exposure, etc.  The best product we've ever used is Stop N Grow by Vittetoe. http://www.vittetoe.com/showstopper/showfeedadd.htm  Scroll down the page and you'll find it.  If you call them they will give you the cattle dose.  Weve used it through the winter months as a preventative and never got ringworm.  Works to clear it up too, spray the spots with fluid film and feed the stop N grow.

I think I am finally getting our ringworm under control.  I have been feeding the iodine granules that I got from my vet mixed in salt and adding that to our feed.  I also have been spraying the spots every few days with 7% iodine.  It seems to be heeling up.  From what I have been told that most cattle will not get ringworm again once they have had it and I have found a vaccine for it but it is available in Canada only.

We've been dealing with ringworm here for a few months now.  Tried just about everything under the sun, but I think it's finally clearing up.
We have 3 steers in our barn and they've all had it.  Thought we were just about through with it, and last night while clipping, we found a new spot on the first steer that had it and thought was healed.  It never ends  ???  I can wait for the weather to warm up enough that we can get all the cattle outside and disinfect the barns.
